Beneficiary: Nevada Community Foundation

Background: Mr. Mann founded several health-care businesses, including MannKind Corporation, which develops drug therapies and other treatments for disease.

Mr. Mann, 88, pledged $70-million to the Nevada Community Foundation, raising the institution’s endowment to $105-million from $35-million. Mr. Mann has not yet decided what programs the donation will support, but foundation officials say they are working with him on a plan.
