Richard King Mellon Foundation and the R.K. Mellon Family Foundation
Richard A. Mellon, former president of RAM Transit, a trucking and logistics company that he sold in 2012, will lead his family’s philanthropies as CEO. A grandson of the grant makers’ founder, he succeeds his uncle, Seward Prosser Mellon, who is retiring from the $2.5 billion foundations after 40 years.
Marguerite Casey Foundation
Luz Vega-Marquis, founding president and CEO, will retire next year after 19 years. Read more of our coverage of her time leading the $783 million foundation.
National Trust for Historic Preservation
Paul Edmondson, interim president since January, has been named president and CEO on a permanent basis. He previously served as its general counsel and chief legal officer. Edmondson succeeds Stephanie Meeks, who departed after eight years.

Rob Gifford, executive vice president at the National Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation, has been promoted to president of the association’s charitable arm that makes scholarship grants to aspiring restaurateurs.
Michael Horne, superintendent at the Knowledge Is Power Program, has been named president and CEO of the Parkland Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas. He succeeds David Krause, who will retire this fall.
Donna Howard, interim vice president for institutional advancement at Morgan State University, has taken on the job permanently and will also serve as executive director of the Morgan State University Foundation. Previously she was director of development at the university for seven years.
Jim Jermier, vice president for development at Luther College, has been named vice president for university advancement at the University of Northern Iowa and president of the UNI Foundation.
Other Notable Appointments
Jamie Bessette, vice president for enrollment management and marketing at the University of Rio Grande, has been named vice president for advancement at the College of Coastal Georgia.
Karen Engelbourg, vice president for development and alumni relations at Boston University, has been promoted to senior vice president for development and alumni relations, effective October 1. She succeeds Scott Nichols, who is leaving this fall at the conclusion of the university’s $1.5 billion capital campaign.
Jeremy Gough, executive vice president and chief development officer at Urban Arts Partnership, has been named chief development officer at Concern Worldwide U.S.
Paula Lee Hobson, vice president for university advancement at Plymouth State University, will become vice president for college advancement at Hartwick College on August 1.
Greg Joye, director of development to the Royal Oak Foundation, has been appointed director of development at the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Denise Wingate Materre, a consultant in Denver, has been named vice president for alumnae relations at Smith College, effective August 26.
Christopher Mossey, a fundraising consultant at the Greatest Works Agency, has been named vice president for institutional advancement at the Curtis Institute of Music.
Kristi Schmidt, vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for Essentia Health, has been named corporate- and foundation-relations development officer at the University of Minnesota at Duluth.
Departures
Kim Anglin Anderson, executive vice president at the Democracy Alliance, will leave this summer after three years to lead the National Education Association.
Janice Elliott will retire as executive director of the Melville Charitable Trust at the end of this year.
Mitchell Reiss, president and CEO of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation since 2014, intends to step down in October.
