Of 70 state parks, beaches, and historic areas in California slated to close due to budget cuts, 11 have received at least temporary reprieves as a result of state agreements with private donors, foundations, and federal and local agencies, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The deals now in in place range in length from one to three years. Roy Stearns, deputy state parks director, said Tuesday that agreements are in the works with potential sponsors of two dozen other facilities and his office is seeking proposals on 11 more, but he added, “We’re a long way from saying most will stay open this summer.” The state has 278 parks in its system.
