March 10, 2010 | Read Time: 1 minute

Philanthropist Warren E. Buffett is well known for pledging billions of dollars to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

But the investor quietly supports other charitable programs as well. One of those is Purpose-Built Communities, a nonprofit advisory group that is helping cities across the country fight poverty.

To learn more about Purpose-Built Communities, read The Chronicle’s article about the New Orleans effort and an article about advice Mr. Buffett offered on how donors should pick the charities they give to.
