OPINION: KENNEDY CENTER PRESIDENT

During his five-year tenure as president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Michael M. Kaiser has turned the staid institution into one of the nation’s most innovative and buzz-worthy performing-arts centers, writes The Washington Post in an editorial. Mr. Kaiser has succeeded in wooing audiences and donors alike, helping to expand the center’s endowment to $100-million and tripling its education budget. While he has made a few blunders—including involving the center in a donation from technology-investor Alberto Vilar, who has since been charged with fraud—Mr. Kaiser deserves praise for helping to enliven Washington’s cultural scene, the paper says.
