$20-Million Gift Supports Neuroscience at UC San Francisco
May 29, 2012
The University of California at San Francisco is naming its new center for the study of brain diseases after donors Herbert and Marion Sandler in recognition of a $20-million challenge gift, reports the San Francisco Business Times.
The 237,000-square-foot Sandler Neurosciences Center, formally opening this month, will pursue diagnostic tools, treatments, and cures for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, strokes, autism, and other neurological disorders.
The Sandlers, who launched an eponymous family foundation after selling their Oakland-based bank, Golden West Financial, for $25-billion in 2006, have given more than $100-million to the university, including a previous $5-million for its neuroscience work.
