$25-Million Gifts Benefit Iowa State and Temple Universities

A $25-million donation from publishers Roy and Bobbi Reiman will set Iowa State University on the road to realizing long-held plans to enclose its open-ended football stadium, reports the Associated Press.

Pending approval by the Board of Regents early next year, the university aims to build a new entrance to Jack Trice Stadium, bowling in the field at the south end zone in time for the 2015 season. The athletic department will raise additional funds for the project to supplement Monday’s lead gift from the Reimans, founders of magazine firm Reiman Publications.

Temple University has also received a $25-million pledge from a media mogul. Lewis Katz, co-owner of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, made the surprise gift announcement Wednesday in accepting an award from the university’s business school, the Inquirer writes.

Mr. Katz, a 1963 Temple graduate and a university trustee 1998, did not specify how the donation would be used, school officials said.
