3-Year Prison Term for Ex-Nonprofit Hospital Boss on Bribery

The former chief executive at a nonprofit New York medical network was sentenced on Monday to three years in prison for funneling money to state lawmakers to secure political favors for the health-care group, says The New York Times.

David P. Rosen was convicted in September in connection with the bribery scandal that also ensnared three former New York legislators to whom prosecutors said Mr. Rosen steered MediSys Health Network funds via consulting deals and business contracts.

Defense attorneys said they planned to appeal the sentence. On Monday they argued for probation and community service, contending Mr. Rosen acted not for personal gain but to win state help for MediSys, which operates hospitals and nursing homes in Brooklyn and Queens.

But U.S. District Court Judge Jed S. Rakoff said the “glaring and rather tawdry truth” was that in pursuit of laudable ends, Mr. Rosen “sought to help make this a government not of the people but of the debauched.”
