$50-Million Gift Bolsters Expansion at Los Angeles-Area Hospital

Southern California property developers Melanie and Richard Lundquist have donated $50-million toward completion of a new main patient tower at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The seven-story center, set to open in the summer of 2014 with 256 private rooms and 18 surgical and treatment spaces, will be named for the donors, but Ms. Lundquist said the naming rights would expire after 25 years so they can be offered as an incentive to future donors.

The Lundquists operate Continental Development Corporation and are serving as co-chairs of a fundraising campaign for the Torrance tower. They have given about $18-million previously to the hospital in Torrance, Calif., outside Los Angeles.
