Anonymous Donor Gives $40-Million to Buffalo Medical School

An anonymous donor has left $40-million to the University of Buffalo’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, reports The Buffalo News.
The late donor, a physician who graduated from the institution, amassed a fortune through investments. The gift, the largest ever received by the university from an individual, is unrestricted but came with the stipulation that the giver’s identity not be revealed.
“This is somebody who came to UB to get a medical degree and basically felt that UB transformed his life,” said Satish K. Tripathi, president of the university.
The gift will be used to attract more high-quality doctors and scientists to the institution, say officials. The medical school is planning to move its facilities from the university’s South Campus to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus within the next five years, connecting it to the rest of the area’s major health-care providers. The university hopes to have recruited an additional 100 new medical faculty members by the time the new school opens.
