Atheist Organization Chooses Atlanta for Biggest Billboard Campaign

September 13, 2010 | Read Time: 1 minute

An advocacy group that for the past three years has mounted billboard campaigns promoting atheism in 45 cities has chosen the biggest city in the southern Bible Belt for its largest effort to date, Bloomberg writes.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, which touts itself as the country’s largest organization of nonbelievers, posted 50 billboards in the Atlanta metropolitan area last week bearing messages such as “Imagine No Religion” and “In Reason We Trust.”

Annie Laurie Gaylor, the foundation’s co-president, said the Atlanta effort is part of a membership and education drive by the group in the traditionally religious South. The organization has mounted smaller billboard campaigns in Tampa., Fla.; Louisville, Ky.; and New Orleans in the past few weeks.
