Atheists’ Online Campaign Boosts Medical Charity

A crowdsourced giving campaign by atheists active on the social-media site reddit.com brought in $180,000 for global aid charity Doctors Without Borders, says Reuters.

The charity collected $180,000 in one week, a record for its online fund raisers, as “redditors” from an atheists’ group on the social site swarmed to the Doctors Without Borders Web page or donated via a third-party giving site. The organization’s page logged 50,000 page views on the first Sunday of the campaign, more than 12 times its average for a Sunday.

Many of the gifts were tagged with messages such as “Because god won’t” or “Good without god.”
