Audubon Society Reinstates Writer After Cat-Poisoning Flap

The National Audubon Society has reinstated a longtime columnist for its magazine who was suspended earlier this month for suggesting in another publication that people use Tylenol to kill feral cats, writes The New York Times.

The move came Tuesday after veteran wildlife journalist Ted Williams apologized on the society’s Web site for the March 14 Orlando Sentinel column, in which he called for euthanizing feral cats to protect birds and cited the over-the-counter pain reliever as an effective feline poison.

The society distanced itself from Mr. Williams’s view, which produced an online outcry from cat groups, and placed him on probation. In reinstating him this week, Audubon President David Yarnold said the organization did not find a “larger pattern of missteps that would warrant further disciplinary action.”
