Bangladesh Court Backs Firing of Grameen Bank Founder

Bangladesh’s highest court on Tuesday upheld the ouster of the Grameen Bank’s founder, Muhammad Yunus, as head of the pioneering microlender, says CNN.

Mr. Yunus, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work developing microfinance to fight poverty in the developing world, was removed from office last week by Bangladesh’s central bank because, at age 70, he is past retirement age. His supporters contend the firing was politically motivated.

A member of Mr. Yunus’s legal team said he would continue to fight the removal order.
