Big Detroit Donor Says It’s Still Committed to Revitalization Projects

July 8, 2011 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Kresge Foundation, which has become a key player in Detroit’s ambitious urban-renewal plans has not withdrawn support for key aspects of the effort, Michigan Live writes.

The newspaper said that a Wall Street Journal article detailing simmering tensions between the Kresge Foundation and City Hall was not accurate. Judy McGovern, a foundation spokeswoman, said Kresge remains committed to the Detroit Works Project, Mayor Dave Bing’s signature revitalization project, and a planned light-rail line.

“There have certainly been frustrations in the relationship” between Kresge and the mayor’s office, Ms. McGovern said. “But it’s moving forward. We’re committed to this.”
