Celebrity participants in the AIDS charity Keep a Child Alive’s “digital death” campaign can return to Facebook and Twitter thanks to a billionaire’s $500,000 donation, Reuters and the Los Angeles Times write.
The charity, co-founded by the singer Alicia Keys, announced Monday that it had reached its $1-million goal thanks to a gift from Stewart Rahr, a pharmaceuticals entrepreneur.
The pop stars Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga and 16 other celebrities had sworn off posting on social networks on Wednesday, World AIDS Day, until their fans donated $1-million.
The campaign had drawn attention and online ribbing from celebrity watchers and gossip sites due to the slow pace of fund raising.
