Billionaire Alumni Pledge $25-Million to Hunter College

Hedge-fund mogul Leon G. Cooperman and his wife, Toby, who met while attending Hunter College in the early 1960s, last week committed $25-million to the New York City college, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The gift, the largest in Hunter’s history, will be split between the institution’s library and a scholarship fund for gifted, needy students who have exhausted other financial-aid options.

The Coopermans, both Bronx natives, married in 1964 after graduating from Hunter, a branch of the City University of New York. Mr. Cooperman is the chairman of the New York hedge fund Omega Advisors.
