BP to Finance Gulf Wildlife Projects by Selling Recovered Oil

BP will donate its proceeds from selling oil recovered from its leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, reports the Associated Press.
The energy giant provided an initial $5-million to the charity for a fund to help wildlife along the Gulf Coast. A containment cap sitting over the well is capturing hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil that can be refined and sold.
Raising money to help people, animals, and environments harmed by the massive spill has been a challenge compared to the outpouring of donations in response natural disasters such as the Haiti earthquake, The Washington Post writes.
LaTosha Brown, director of the Gulf Coast Fund for Community Renewal and Ecological Health, said the spill has prompted a debate in philanthropic circles over whether donors should focus on alleviating a disaster blamed on a corporation.
