British Lottery Fund Doles Out $46-Million to Help Charities Survive Cuts

The Big Lottery Fund, which steers U.K. gaming revenue to nonprofit groups, announced $46-million in new grants to hundreds of charities affected by rising demand for services and falling government support, Third Sector reports.

The grant-maker will provide a full extra year’s support to 214 organizations, in payments ranging from about $50,000 to $630,000.

Hundreds more organizations will receive smaller grants that Nat Sloane, chairman of the fund’s England committee, said will give recipients “some much-needed time and space to plan for the future and explore ways of making their projects more sustainable.”
