British Mogul Plans to Sell All and Start African Charity

Renouncing his “incredibly selfish existence,” a British millionaire is pledging to sell his home and business to move to Uganda and start a children’s charity, the Daily Mail reports.

Jon Pedley, 41, said a near-death experience in a 2002 car crash prompted a religious awakening and a re-examination of a life in which he had built a successful telecommunications business but also drank heavily, philandered, and was convicted of fraud.

Inspired by a friend’s work in East Africa, Mr. Pedley said he is exchanging his company and his $1.5-million home in Essex for a mud hut and a charity, Uganda Vision, that aims to bring troubled British children to help the African nation work with local orphans.
