Cable Mogul Gives $50-Million to Yale Engineering School
March 28, 2011
The cable-television magnate John Malone has donated $50-million to Yale University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science to endow 10 new professorships, the Hartford Courant writes.
Mr. Malone, a 1963 Yale engineering graduate, built TeleCommunications Inc. into a cable giant before selling the firm in 1999 and now works with program distributor Liberty Media. He previously endowed the university’s Daniel L. Malone Engineering Center, named for his father.
In December Mr. Malone gave $30-million to the Johns Hopkins University; as a result of that donation, he ranked No. 35 on The Chronicle’s list of the most-generous donors of 2010.
