Calif. Lawmakers Back Bill Extending Time for Abuse Suits

California’s legislature gave final approval Friday to a measure that would give some alleged molestation victims more time to take legal action against institutions they say failed to protect them from abuse, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The bill, which was opposed by the Catholic Church, now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown for signature or veto. It would apply to private and nonprofit institutions such as churches, parochial schools, and the Boy Scouts.
