Calif. University Receives Trove of U.S. Troops’ Letters

The head of the Legacy Project, a Washington, D.C.-based volunteer effort to preserve the correspondence of American soldiers in wars from the Revolution to Iraq and Afghanistan, has donated the trove of some 100,000 letters to Chapman University in California, The Washington Post writes.

Andrew Carroll’s collection, which he began amassing in 1998, was used to establish the Center for American War Letters, which Chapman formally launched on Veterans Day. The letters have been used in anthologies and documentaries but were for the most part kept in a Washington storage facility.
