Calif. Woman Jailed in $700,000 Theft from Adoption Charity

A Southern California woman was sentenced Monday to 41 months in prison for embezzling more than $700,000 from the publicly funded adoption agency where she kept the books, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Kathaleen Prince, 62, of Oxnard was ordered to repay the money to the nonprofit Inner Circle Foster Family Agency in Van Nuys. She had previously pleaded guilty to four counts of misapplication of property of a federally funded organization.
Investigators said Ms. Prince, a seven-year employee of Inner Circle, forged signatures on checks from the organization, made payable to herself and creditors, and then used the money to pay for credit-card and cellphone bills and a trip to Hawaii.
