Clinton to Press Job Creation at Philanthropic Summit

Corporate and nonprofit leaders at this week’s Clinton Global Initiative will hear a call from former president Bill Clinton to do more to kick-start stalled labor markets in the United States and abroad, Reuters reports.

In an interview with the news service, Mr. Clinton said job creation would be the key theme at his foundation’s seventh annual philanthropic summit, along with efforts to promote conservation and aid women and girls.

Along with persistent unemployment of around 9 percent in America, he said developing countries “are afraid the global economic crisis is going to stop them from creating sufficient employment to continue to grow.”

He urged companies to invest some of their collective $2-trillion in cash reserves to build job opportunities.

Some 1,200 political, business, and humanitarian leaders are scheduled to attend the summit, which begins Tuesday in New York.
