Colo. Candidate Offers to Repay Foundation for Plagiarized Essays

The Colorado gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis said he will return the $300,000 a foundation paid him in 2005 to write essays on drought and water rights that turned out to be plagiarized, the Associated Press writes.

The Republican hopeful said his agreement to repay the Hasan Family Foundation should bring the issue, which has threatened to derail his candidacy, to a close.

Mr. McInnis has acknowledged that the essays he wrote as a Hasan senior fellow were not wholly original. They included material written by a Colorado Supreme Court justice, which Mr. McInnis said was provided to him without attribution by a longtime friend and water expert.
