Conn. Attorney General OKs $7.7-Million Newtown Fund Plan

Connecticut’s top legal official has cleared the way for the Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation to begin doling out $7.7-million in assistance to the families of victims of December’s school shooting, the Los Angeles Times writes.

Attorney General George Jepsen sought to examine the distribution plan last month after meeting with Newtown families who raised concerns about the foundation’s proposal for spending about $11.4-million in donations. The fund had earmarked $7.7-million for the families and the remainder for community needs.

“Reasonable minds may differ as to how the money should be allocated,” Mr. Jepsen wrote in May 30 letter to foundation officials. But he said the fund’s actions “have been reasonable and compliant both with the donor intent as well as the foundation’s governing documents. Therefore I conclude no legal action by my office is warranted at this time.”
