Cornell U. Gets $15-Million to Spur Community Service

The Atlantic Philanthropies has pledged $15-million to provide financial aid to students in a Cornell University scholarship program that emphasizes volunteering and community service, reports The Ithaca Journal.
The gift will benefit Cornell Tradition, which awards some 550 fellowships a year to students based on community commitment, work experience, and academic achievement.
The founder of the Atlantic Philanthropies, Charles Feeney, is a 1956 Cornell graduate and the foundation has donated $600-million to the Ithaca, N.Y., school, including the 1983 gift that established Cornell Tradition.
