With more than $5-million in debt, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra plans to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and will disband, according to the Syracuse Post-Standard. The orchestra’s board decided to file for chapter 7 because it allows the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to assume responsibility for the musicians’ pensions.
