Disabled Veterans Group Loses Money on Direct Mail

May 8, 2012 | Read Time: 1 minute

A national veterans’ organization that has collected $55.9-million in contributions since its founding five years ago has paid more than that to the firm that handles its fundraising, according to CNN.

The Disabled National Veterans Foundation’s tax filings show payments of nearly $61-million from 2008 through 2010 to Quadriga Art LLC, which owns two direct-mail companies, and a Quadriga subsidiary, Brickmill Marketing Services.

The in-kind contributions to smaller vets’ charities the foundation has cited in tax forms and on its Web site include large shipments of cough drops, dress shoes, aprons, and coconut M&M’s, officials with recipient groups told CNN.

The news network said the foundation has not responded to repeated requests for comment or to written questions, and the group’s president, Precilla Wilkewitz, declined to respond when approached by a CNN crew.
