Distillery Donates Rare Bourbon to Charities for Auction

A Kentucky distillery is giving away all 174 bottles of a rare batch of bourbon to charities to auction off, writes Bloomberg.
Kris Comstock of Buffalo Trace Distillery, in Frankfort, said more than 150 organizations have signed up for the offer, which expires at midnight Tuesday. Participating groups have until the end of the year to sell the bourbon, which was bottled on December 31, 1999, after it had been aged 11 years in a one-of-a-kind charred barrel.
“We knew we had a special barrel, and we didn’t know exactly what we would do with it at first,” Mr. Comstock said. “Then we thought that it could go to a much better use.”
He said the charities would be identified next month and that the “Millennium Barrel” bottles could fetch upwards of $1,000 each at auction. Rare wines and spirits are increasingly popular items at charity fund-raising events.
