Dole Mogul Adds $50-Million to Giving for Nutrition Science

May 9, 2013

David Murdock, the billionaire chairman of Dole Foods, announced a $50-million gift Wednesday to support nutrition and health science at the Kannapolis, N.C., research center in which he has already put hundreds of millions of dollars, the Charlotte Observer says.

The donation will go to the David H. Murdock Research Institute, to which the 90-year-businessman and health-food devotee has previously given $131-million. Mr. Murdock has invested $600-million in developing the larger Kannapolis campus at a former textile mill, where food-industry scientists and university researchers collaborate on health, nutrition, and agriculture work.
