Donald Trump Drops Charity ‘Pledge’ Suit Against Bill Maher

April 4, 2013 | Read Time: 1 minute

Billionaire mogul Donald Trump has withdrawn his lawsuit demanding payment of a $5-million charity promise comedian Bill Maher made last year for proof that Mr. Trump was not the son of an orangutan, Reuters reports.

A spokesman for Mr. Trump said the real-estate tycoon and reality-TV star requested last week that the suit he filed in February in Los Angeles Superior Court be dismissed but that he plans to file an amended complaint in the future.

The dispute arose indirectly from Mr. Trump’s promise last year to give $5-million to charity if President Obama released his college records. Appearing on “The Tonight Show” in January, Mr. Maher made a similar, seemingly joking offer if Mr. Trump produced a birth certificate proving he was not half-orangutan, which the mogul subsequently did.
