Donor’s Son Sues Dallas Museum

The Dallas Museum of Art is being sued by a museum donor’s son, who is seeking the return of an art collection valued at $400-million that came from his mother’s estate, writes The Dallas Morning News.

Arnold Leon Schroeder Jr. sued the museum and others over the art collection once owned by his mother, Wendy Reves, who died in 2007. The museum received the donation in 1983.

Ms. Reves lived in France, and in his lawsuit, Mr. Schroeder alleges that the museum and others tricked him out of ownership of the collection, which he says represented one half of his mother’s estate. Under French law, the lawsuit alleges, that collection should have gone to him instead of the museum.

The museum said in a statement that the lawsuit is “without merit” and although Ms. Reves ran several foundations created by her husband—and oversaw the art collection—the assets those foundations held were not part of her estate.
