Drop in Washington-Area Foundation Giving Exceeds National Average

Foundations in and around the District of Columbia gave out $844-million in 2009, 9.6 percent less than in the previous year, The Washington Post reports, citing a study by the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers.

The study was based on research by the Foundation Center, which said that foundation giving nationally declined 8.4 percent last year.
