Drug Maker Lilly Commits $30-Million to Spreading New TB Pills

Pharmaceuticals giant Eli Lilly and Company will spend $30-million over five years helping tuberculosis patients get access to new treatments for drug-resistant strains of the disease, says Bloomberg.
The Indianapolis-based firm’s foundation said Tuesday that the money will be used to spread treatment to people in China, India, Russia, and South Africa and train health-care workers.
Lilly has spent $135-million in the past eight years training generic drug makers to manufacture pills for drug-resistant tuberculosis, which represents about 4 percent of worldwide TB cases and requires costlier medicines.
