Emirates President Gives $150-Million to Texas Hospital

The United Arab Emirates president’s charitable foundation has pledged $150-million to support a new research and therapy institute at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The Houston Chronicle writes.
The gift from Sheik Khalifa Bin Zayed al-Nahyan was designed to honor M.D. Anderson’s treatment of numerous patients from the emirates over the years, according to John Mendelsohn, the hospital’s president.
Two-thirds of the gift will be devoted to construction of a new building to house an institute for personalized cancer treatment, with the rest going to pancreatic cancer research, clinical trials, and equipment. The institute will be named for President al-Nahyan and the new building for his late father and predecessor.
