Energy Firm Drops W.Va. Donation Over Drilling Ban

An natural-gas company has withdrawn a donation to support a farmer’s market in a West Virginia town where officials attempted to ban gas drilling, The State Journal of Frankfort, Ky., reports.

Although the ban was struck down in court, Chesapeake Energy said in a statement that it decided to pull the $25,000 contribution to the Morgantown Farmers Market because it focuses its philanthropy “where natural-gas production is supported by the community and its leaders.”
