Engineering School Lands $10-Million Donation

The University of Kansas School of Engineering has received $10-million from Al and Lila Self, business entrepreneurs who are both alumni of the university, says The Topeka Capital-Journal.
Including this most recent donation, the Selfs, who live in Illinois, have given a total of $44-million to the university.
They met at the university, married in the 1940s, and built an international company that produces polymers and polymer coatings that is used on plastics.
Mr. Self is now president of Allen Financial, and he previously served as chief executive of Tioga International.
The money will go toward a program for engineering and science students that offers them extra academic opportunities, as well as chances to meet with mentors and develop their leadership capabilities.
