Ex-Employee Admits Embezzling From Ky. Nuns’ Charity

A former bookkeeper for a Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home in Louisville, Ky., pleaded guilty Monday to skimming some $364,000 from the nun-operated charity, says the Associated Press.

Prosecutors said Mary Montfort, 54, faces up to three years in federal prison after admitting to forging nuns’ names on 43 checks between April 2010 and November 2011, when a sister from the order’s St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged contacted police about the suspected embezzlement.

As part of her plea agreement, Ms. Montfort agreed to repay the money, which she used to buy a car, among other items.
