The co-founders of Feed the Children have sued an Oklahoma retail magnate, saying he helped engineer their ouster from the antipoverty charity, the Associated Press writes.
In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Larry and Frances Jones allege that David Green, the billionaire owner of the Hobby Lobby store chain, and members of his family sought to take over Feed the Children and acted behind the scenes to influence the Oklahoma City aid group’s board.
The couple founded Feed the Children in 1979. The charity’s board fired Larry Jones as president in 2009, leading him to file a lawsuit over his dismissal that was settled in January. Frances Jones left her job with the organization late last year.
Bill Johnson, a lawyer for the Green family, denied the Joneses’ claims and characterized the lawsuit as “shakedown tactics.”
