The Washington Post looks at the rise of billionaire financier and political power player David Rubinstein in a lengthy profile that also covers his emergence as a major D.C. donor.

The article features a roundup of the Carlyle Group co-founder’s philanthropy, which includes gifts totaling $44-million to Duke University, $30.5-million to Harvard University, and $25-million to the Kennedy Center, where he serves as chairman.

Mr. Rubinstein has also loaned or donated items from his collection of historical books, manuscripts, and documents, which includes rare copies of the Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence, and the Emancipation Proclamation.
