Five Toronto Hospitals to Share $48-Million Gift

For the second time this year, the family of a Canadian media magnate has donated $50-million Canadian ($47.9-million U.S.) to improve medical care in Toronto, The Globe and Mail reports.
Five medical centers in Canada’s largest city—Toronto General and Western Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health—will receive equal shares of the gift from the Slaight Family Foundation. The money will support a variety of diagnostic, care, and modernization initiatives.
The Slaight family was integral in developing multimedia conglomerate Standard Broadcasting. In January, patriarch Allan Slaight and his wife, Emmanuelle Gattuso, donated $50-million Canadian to further cancer research at Toronto’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
