Forbes rates the top donors of 2012 in its second annual philanthropy issue.

Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett top the list of people who made large donations, as opposed to pledges, last year.

The philanthropy package also includes articles on Hyatt Hotels heiress Liesel Pritzker Simmons‘s $50-million investment in social start-ups and hedge-fund billionaire Paul Tudor Jones‘s plans to shift his Robin Hood Foundation’s focus from poverty to education reform, and a joint interview with Bill Gates and Bono on using both fortune and fame for social missions.

See The Chronicle of Philanthropys database of the top donors, which is continuously updated to include the most recent gifts of 2013.
