GAO to Review Sebelius Appeals for Pro-Obamacare Group

The Government Accountability Office, the federal government’s chief watchdog agency, will scrutinize efforts by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to solicit support for a nonprofit group promoting President Obama’s health-care law, says Reuters.
Republican congressional aides said the nonpartisan GAO has agreed to audit the secretary’s actions, including specific calls to tax firm H&R Block and to the health-policy-focused Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on behalf of Enroll America. The organization, headed by a former White House aide, launched a national effort last week to raise awareness about provisions of the Affordable Care Act.
The audit was sought by Republicans in Congress who contend Ms. Sebelius breached ethics rules by asking health-care entities to back Enroll America, which she denies. In a letter Thursday, 28 GOP senators called on the secretary to cease assisting the nonprofit group, according to The Wall Street Journal.
