Gates and Powell Join Celebrities on Twitter Malaria Campaign

Bill Gates and former Secretary of State Colin Powell will join a host of celebrities on a Twitter campaign starting Wednesday to fight malaria, says Reuters.
The actor Ashton Kutcher, basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest are among the famous names who will send out the first blast of “tweets” through Sunday, World Malaria Day, urging Twitter followers to donate money to buy mosquito netting, which helps prevent the disease in Africa.
Mr. Gates will also appear Wednesday on the American Idol fund-raising show Idol Gives Back to promote the malaria campaign and other global health causes.
USA Today reports that the mental-health charity To Write Love on Her Arms has won the newspaper’s Twitter-based #AmericaWants campaign. The organization, which received the most tweets with the hashtag #AmericaWants during last week’s competition, will get a full-page ad in the daily newspaper.
