The U.S. government is set to overhaul its annual workplace fundraising drive, adopting recommendations made by an advisory panel last year that include switching entirely to electronic giving and shifting some operational costs to participating charities, The Washington Post writes.
New rules for the Combined Federal Campaign to be published Monday by the Office of Personnel Management generally follow the direction of a commission empaneled to weigh changes to the giving drive, which turned 50 last year.
Other reforms include changing the campaign dates so that it will run from Oct. 1 to Jan. 15; allowing new federal staffers to participate in the first drive after their hiring; and streamlining administration of the fundraiser from 184 localized campaigns to fewer regional ones.
Donations to the federal campaign dropped nearly $282-million in 2010 to less than $273-million in 2011, the most recent year for which figures are available.
