House Democrats Drop Vote on Disclosure Bill Amid Rifle-Group Flap

Leading House Democrats abandoned plans for a Friday vote on legislation requiring politically active corporations, unions, and nonprofit groups to disclose their top donors as criticism of a proposed exemption for some organizations mounted, The Washington Post says.

The deal to exempt some large advocacy groups, seemingly tailored to head off opposition to the disclosure bill from the National Rifle Association, generated outrage among liberal nonprofit groups, members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and gun-control and environmental organizations.
