Fundraisers frequently reach out to donors who are much older or younger than they are.
Too often that leads them to fall into the trap of believing stereotypes about the generations—that older donors aren’t likely to give by text message or that millennial donors don’t want to give to colleges and other rich institutions, says Phyllis Weiss Haserot, a fundraising consultant.
Ms. Haserot says that while it’s great for fundraisers to understand the overall mind-set and attitudes of young, old, and middle-aged donors, it’s also important to keep an open mind.
In this episode of Fundraising Fundamentals, Ms. Haserot discusses how fundraisers can avoid mistakes in soliciting donors from a wide range of generations.
