A record of donating skilled work to nonprofit groups makes job applicants more appealing to managers making hiring decisions, The Wall Street Journal writes, citing a new study by Deloitte.
More than 80 percent of 202 human-resources executives surveyed by the consulting and financial-services firm said they would be more likely to take on a recent college graduate who had gained experience doing volunteer work, such as helping a nonprofit group with its finances.
Recruiters and young job seekers were less sanguine about the value of volunteering, with fewer than half of college seniors polled by Deloitte saying they had considered donating skilled work to increase their marketability.
